Abstract
"O projeto de matematizar a natureza exerceu, na ciência da modernidade, um papel fundamental. Isaac Newton ficou conhecido por conceber um sistema de explicação de mundo essencialmente matemático, contrapondo-se a explicações mecânicas qualitativas, como as de René Descartes. Entretanto, a mecânica cartesiana não estava desvinculada de um projeto de matematização do mundo físico. O que difere um projeto do outro e, por conseguinte, seus respectivos resultados são as diferentes concepções da matemática e do modo como ela deve ser aplicada no conhecimento da natureza. Este texto propõe-se a investigar as diferenças entre os dois projetos de matematização da natureza, estabelecendo um paralelo entre as duas concepções de matemática que fundamentam os respectivos projetos" ["The project mathematizing nature shall, in modern science, one fundamental role. Isaac Newton was known for designing an explanation of system essentially mathematical world, opposing the qualitative mechanical explanations, such as René Descartes. However, the Cartesian mechanics was not unrelated to a mathematisation design of the physical world. What differs from another project and, therefore their results are different conceptions of mathematics and how it should be applied in the knowledge of nature. This text proposes to investigate the differences between the nature of mathematisation projects, establishing a parallel between the two mathematical concepts that underlie their projects"]
