"This study approaches the text of James 5,13-18 by analyzing the religious practices and the prayers which are contained in it, on the basis of an ample horizon provided by the methodologies of anthropology and comparative literature. The powerful prayer of James 5,13-18, like the anointing with oil and the forgiveness of sins, reveals an intimate adherence, on the part of the early Christian communities, to the magico-religious practices of the time.
