Apresentou, também, um histórico da origem da palavra solidariedade, suas classificações e associações, incluindo uma visão latino-americana atual sobre o tema e perpassando pela sua racionalização como direito social. Discutiram-se criticamente termos como caridade, compaixão, fraternidade e filantropia, usualmente confundidos com solidariedade. Procurando uma visão mais abrangente e dialética, o estudo apresentou três formas contemporâneas de interpretação do princípio da solidariedade: solidariedade assistencial, solidariedade crítica e solidariedade radical. Concluiu-se que as ações éticas verdadeiramente solidárias são aquelas em que o agente doador interage com o outro (o receptor) de modo horizontal, dinâmico e bilateral, com responsabilidades compartidas" ["This paper analyzes the principle of solidarity and cooperation included in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights of UNESCO.
