Rather than attempt to define scripture in a way that encompasses multiple traditions of texts, the argument is developed that the meaning of scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16 can be read by Christians in a way that extends its scope. This extension is not warranted by the tradition: indeed Christian traditions have almost uniformly interpreted scripture as referring to the scriptures that Christians read. But the tradition implicitly makes its own extension, not least by including 2 Timothy itself within the scope of scripture. The argument is made under nine headings, each one taken from the Biblical text: “Learning”, “Firmly Believing”, “Knowing”, “Teaching”, “Reproving”, “Correcting”, “Training in the Virtues”, “Everyone who belongs to God”, and “All”. 这一争论分为以下九个从《提摩太后书》中选取的标题:教训、知道、督责、使人归正、教导、完全、行各样的善事、属神的人、所有的人.engInstitute of Sino-Christian Studies (ISCS) ; Institute of Comparative Scripture and Inter-religious Dialogue, Minzu University of Chinascriptural reasoninginter-faith dialogueComparative ScriptureIntercultural and contextual theologiesAsian theologiesThe Scope of Scripture in Scriptural Reasoning : Reflections on 2 Timothy 3:16Article
