Abstract "This article seeks to investigate the possibility of an alternative way of looking at Jesus in the gospel of Mark. Recognizing that the discipleship motif is central to this gospel this work turns the issue on its head by making Jesus, and not anybody else, the ideal disciple of the kingdom of God. As such, he becomes the one who calls people to co-discipleship for the purpose of constructing a new reality which he as the Son of man and representative of the community has come to announce and to implement.
