He was converted in his youth and became a member of the Baptist church in his native town. At the age of twenty he entered Horton College, Bradford (later Rawdon Baptist College), as a candidate for the Baptist ministry. He was called to the pastorate of Ebenezer Baptist chapel, Scarborough, in 1826 ..
