The basic assumption explored is that language is not monolithic since it contains the history, culture, and knowledge of a society. When two languages contact in regional or national level, cross-cultural competencies are needed in order to appreciate the differences between the cultures. The failure in understanding the existing differences commonly leads to conflict.
