Abstract
"Uma vida sexual realizada e feliz – qualquer que seja a definição que cada um escolha ou possa escolher – é essencial para a maioria dos seres humanos e para o progresso, desenvolvimento e crescimento de uma sociedade. E, no entanto, porque a natureza humana é imperfeita, é de algumas imperfeições na vida sexual e reprodutiva que hoje falaremos. Para muitos dos humanos as doenças sexualmente transmitidas, a gravidez involuntária e a esterilidade são realidades que lhes causam um imenso sofrimento, tantas vezes perturbador do precário e instável equilíbrio afectivo existente. Tenho para mim que, também nesta área, é função da biomedicina e da bioética, na medida do possível, corrigir e atenuar as imperfeições da natureza humana. É certo que nem todos coincidimos nem coincidiremos na extensão e profundidade dessa mesma intervenção" ["A fulfilled and happy sex life - whatever the definition that each choice or can choose - is essential for most humans and the progress, development and growth of a society.
