Abstract
This book explores the portrayal of Jesus in the synoptic gospels, using the methodology of source, form, redaction, narrative, rhetorical and social-science criticism. It explores the portray of Jesusā€˜ infancy, baptism, Christological titles, the Jesus movements in Galilee and Judea, before addressing the synoptical portray of Jesus for issues including the downtrodden, relationship between women and men and the status of children in the community of Jesus. It discusses issues of community discipline and the question of power. The final chapters deal with the topic of mission, peace and justice and the book ends with an exegesis on Matthew 13.
