Abstract
In this essay, I plan to discuss the concept of “common spirit” from several aspects. In Greek, it is called koinê aesthesis; in Latin, sensus communis; in English, common sense or common spirit; and its corresponding German concept is “der Gemeinsinn.” The essay is divided into the following several parts: Part 1: review of some discussions on common spirit in the Chinese tradition; Part II: significance of common spirit in modern society; Part III: connotation of common spirit of economics; and Part IV: the principle of common spirit as economic ethics.
