Abstract
"Em Portugal a ciência forense – enquanto actividade ao serviço do Direito e da Justiça – assenta em dois pilares fundamentais – o Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses e o Laboratório de Polícia Científica da Polícia Judiciária. O papel da ciência forense consiste na disponibilização de conclusões, assentes no especial conhecimento e desenvolvimento do saber científico, que possam contribuir para a reconstituição dos factos, para a produção de prova pericial e para a respectiva avaliação pelo sistema jurídico" ["In Portugal forensic science - while activity in the service of law and justice - based on two fundamental pillars - the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences and Forensic Science Laboratory of the Judicial Police.
