Abstract
"One reality of the African experience which has not been adequately touched by the gospel is the reality of Satan and his kingdom of darkness. Two extreme approaches challenge the African churches today: one that ignores the demonic powers and thereby leaves the Christians defenseless against the attacks of Satan; the other which has integrated the African traditional preoccupation with the powers of Satan and inadvertently magnifies the presence and power of the evil spirits in the Christian church. What is desperately needed is a balanced biblical approach to Satan that arises frQm a study of the biblical text. In this first article of a two-part series on Satan; Dr. Ferdinando exposits the biblical teaching on the nature and limits of Satan's power. "
