Abstract
This article deals with the current development of Egyptian Islamic philosophy. Using descriptive and historical methods of analysis, this study discusses the very root of this philosophy in the modern Egypt, its orientation which gradually turns into popular thought, its methods and luminous figures, and current situation amidst the intellectual approaches of Muslim fundamentalists. In the final analysis, this study reveals that the Egyptian Islamic philosophy originates from the Greece brought by migrating people to the land of Pharaoh. It also suffers changing orientation since it deals with Islamic theology, mysticism, and ushûl fiqh. As for its methodological inquiries, modern Islamic philosophy in this country follows either Mustafâ ‘Abd al-Râziq’s method of critical analysis, Muhammad Iqbal’s comparative method or Ibrâhîm Madkûr’s historical analysis.
