Abstract
This study aims to determine the speech development of preschool children through storytelling methods. The study was conducted in PAUD and kindergarten schools in the District of Seberang Ulu II Palembang, specifically in Kasih Ibu PAUD and Yaspa kindergarten. Number samples are 30 children, 10 children of Kasih Ibu PAUD and 20 children of TK A and B Yaspa. To take the samples uses purposive sampling technique. Measuring instrument used is the observation sheet of standard speaking skills based on the aspect of Brooks (2004). The results of this study with the manual calculation based on the observations showed there were 17 children who have good speaking skills with range values of tally (21-30) and 13 children who have enough speaking skills with range values of tally (11-20). Then those all are analyzed using data analysis of One Sample T Test using SPSS version 19.0. Analysis of data using one sample t test showed t table = 3.3962> t = -26.907. It means there are differences in each child's speech skills and this also showed that there is influence of story telling method that is highly significant with p = 0.000.
