Abstract
In religious context, religious symbols are supposed to be instruments of religious expression. Without any interpretation, religious symbols do not refer to anything at all. It is interpretation that actively applies the meaning of religious symbolism in our daily reality. By using the ideas of Paul Tillich and Robert C Neville, this article will discuss religious symbols as the expression of religion, the characteristics of religious symbols, the interpretation of religious symbols, and interpretation as a method of the interreligious dialogue.
