Abstract
This article discusses about harmony of social life of different religion in Kudus, Central Java. The research conducted on 2012 in Colo Village, Dawe, Kudus, Central Java shows that people from different religious background have created harmony among themselves. This research uses observation and interview to collect the data from the research field and applies descriptive qualitative analysis. In 2012 the population in Colo was 4.327 people consisting of 2.400 family in which the majority were Moslems. There were also 16 Christians, 40 Buddhists and 14 Ahmadiyah’s family living in one village. All religious adherents built their own sacred places consisting of five mosques (the Muria Mosque in Muria Mountain built by the Central Java Provincial government, two mosques in Colo village and a mosque built by Ahmady people), 11 mushalla (Muslim prayer house) spread in four hamlets of Colo, a church beside a vihara. The vihara was built during Gus Dur’s presidency. In addition, there were two private Islamic schools, two elementary schools, a private junior Islamic high school (MTs), a private senior Islamic high school (MA), three Quranic learning centers, a kindergarten and an Islamic playgroup. Religious harmony among the society in Colo was established through social and cultural life in which most of them had good income. They were not easily triggered by conflict and there was no such conflict trigger, moreover they had a strong family ties among people from different religious background.
