Abstract
This article discusses the character education in salafiyah pesantren i.e Pesantren Langitan Tuban and Pesantren Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan East Java. Different from most pesantren in Indonesia, both pesantren still maintain the character of traditional pesantren by do not adoption of curriculum from government or modernization process as modern pesantren. At least, the author shows that Pesantren Langitan and Pesantren Ihyaul Ulum build the character education through two ways: first, learning process in understanding the Islamic values in Islamic classical literature or kitab kuning (yellow book). Second, figure of kyai as central figure in pesantren have big influence to santri (student) because kyai is role model and also motivator for them.
