Abstract
With the prominence of religious and ethnic diversity in the United Kingdom, the issues of cultural dialogue, harmony between diversified religions, and the public role of religion in a secular society have become a profound and urgent problem for intellectuals. This paper is an interview with David Ford, a representative of public theologians in the United Kingdom. He co-founded the movement of Scriptural Reasoning and initiated the Inter-faith Program in Cambridge. Its basic method of conducting interreligious dialogue through reading together different Scriptures, common cultural resource of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, could be inspirational for the Chinese religious situation. Issues about the role of scripture in religious dialogue, the principle of scriptural reasoning, the public role of religion, and the role of the university in interreligious dialogue were discussed.
