Abstract
The national park-status of an area is facing some kind of disturbances. Indonesian National Park almost take in dangerous because of exploitations and encroachment of natural resourcces. One of that National Park is Merbabu National Park. The researh aim to (1) identify the kind of human activities related to environmental degradation on biodiversity in Merbabu National Park; (2) identify the level of environmental degradation on biodiversity caused by human activities; and (3) formulate the strategies of environmental management in order to conserve the Merbabu National Park. The identification of degradation to abiotic and biotic environmental components defined by soil condition, landuse, and landcover and density of vegetation using NDVI index. Identification of degradation to cultural component defined by interview about knowledge aspect, level of education and level of society income. The result of research show that environmental degradation to abiotic component caused by non-ecological intensive seasonal landuse. Environmental degradation to biotic component caused by the domination of low density vegetation. Environmental degradation to cultural component caused by the societies knowledge on biodiversity that is low understanding. Commonly, the level of environmental degradation to abiotc, biotic and cultural components are medium level of degradtion. So that, some alternative strategies of environmental management in order to conserve the Merbabu National Park such as (1) reinforcement the ecosystem of Merbabu National Park; (2) socialiszation about the important of biodiversity; (3) socialiszation about the management of Merbabu National Park; (4) informing about the important of ecological-based farming system; and (5) enlarging the job demand.
