Abstract
The book discusses the diaspora in Babylon and the origin of the synagogue, the conquest of Alexander the Great and the origin and development of Hellenism. It deals with the Septuagint and the Jewish reaction against Hellenism, the Maccabean revolt and the emergence of sectarian Judaism. It explores topics in connection with the Roman Empire, Jewish messianism and the spreading of the gospel. Other themes such as Paul’s missionary journeys, his kerygma, the status of women in Paul, the collection for the saints, righteousness and salvation are also dealt with.
