Abstract
"La Revolución Haitiana de 1791-1804 representó un hito importantísimo en la historia del mundo atlántico. Fue una rebelión prolongada y violenta en la que esclavos africanos y criollos desafiaron dos de las instituciones centrales de la época: la esclavitud y el colonialismo. El desafío fue tan profundo y sin precedentes, que se citó y discutió a lo largo y ancho del hemisferio. Para los esclavos y las personas libres de color, la autoliberación de los esclavos negros en Haití estimuló la imaginación y desencadenó una revolución de las conciencias. Por su lado, los esclavistas y autoridades coloniales hablaban y escribían constantemente sobre el terror de Haití, los peligros de “otro Haití”, y de la cautela y el control requeridos para prevenir un apocalipsis racial como el que había ocurrido en la que había sido la colonia más próspera del nuevo mundo." ["The Haitian Revolution of 1791-1804 represented an important milestone in the history of the Atlantic world. It was a long and violent rebellion in which African and Creole slaves defied two of the central institutions of the time: slavery and colonialism. The challenge was so profound and unprecedented, which is cited and discussed in throughout the hemisphere. For slaves and free persons of color, self-liberation of black slaves in Haiti sparked the imagination and sparked a revolution of conscience. On the other hand, the slave and colonial authorities spoke constantly wrote about the terror of Haiti, the dangers of "another Haiti" and stealth and control required to prevent a racial apocalypse as had happened in which he had been the most prosperous colony in the New World"]
