Abstract
This paper discusses the Qur’anic dialogue with Arab tradition and its implication for the formation of Islamic law. Al-Qur’an as the most important miracle of the Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) which was revealed in the language of the Arab society guiding the life of humankind has brought the changes to pre-Islamic Arab traditions. The Qur’anic reformation covers various aspects of social lives. The concept and implication gave rise into the formation of new laws. The author maintains that the implication of the changes introduced by the Qur’an might accommodate, abolish and even reject the Arab traditions such as the practice of syirkah, child adoption and the prohibition of intoxicating drink, gambling and interest on loan respectively. The three types of reform then became part of Islamic legal system in the realms of mu’amalah, munakahat and jinayah as found in today’s book of Islamic jurisprudence.
