Abstract
The paper examines the meaning of jihad which is understood by some islamic organizations or islamic groups. Nowadays, the term of jihad is often misunderstood and misused, especially by militant Moslems translating it as a fight against unbelievers in order to destroy them or to convert them to Islam. As a result, in the time of Muhammad, It was applied as a hard effort to establish Islamic values in society, not as a fight against the “enemy” of God or the holy war as it is being widely understood today.
