Abstract
This paper focuses on exploring theoretical foundation on teaching peace through Islamic education in school and family. This article is begun by discussion on current conception of peace education in general that acts in the direction of positive peace in the level of inner peace, social peace and peace with nature. It then explores Islamic point of views in more holistic peace that composes four dimensions; (1) peace in the context of human relationship with God; (2) Peace with oneself; (3) Peace with the wider community; and (4) peace with the environment. By introducing the theoretical foundation of Peace Education both in Islam and non-Islam, the author aims at contributing to curriculum design for teaching peace through Islamic education as one of obligatory subject in Indonesian school and also family education.
