Abstract
This essay probes [into] the status and relationship between“ God” and“ gods” in Psalm 82 by analyzing the Hebrew words“ ןוֹילְ עֶ , “”ל אֵ , “”םי הִֹל אֱ ”and“ י נֵ בְ ןוֹילְ עֶ ” in it. It suggests that the” God”( ל אֱ 、 םי הִֹל אֱ )and the“ gods”( םי הִֹל אֱ )have formed hostile groups in the Psalm and“ justice” becomes their boundary. The god“ ל אֵ ” is the Highest God, namely“ ןוֹילְ עֶ ”,and“ the sons of the Most Highest(” (י נֵ בְ ןוֹילְ עֶ are the“ gods” who are condemned. Following the traditions of the ancient Near East, both God and gods are the members of“ the assembly of gods”,in other words, they are the gods of the paganism countries. Due to their injustice, the universal base has been shaken,so the Israelite God Yahweh takes charge of the conference of the heavens, and sentences the gods to death to maintain the universal stability.
