Abstract
This article discusses about the genealogy and history of political Islam in Prophet Muhammad and Khulafa al Rasyidin era. Historically, the author states that Rasulullah had played significant role in building Islamic civilization especially by building Madina as a state for some religious communities. In relatively short time, Islam had become a powerful challenge not only for the Quraysh but also for the two powerful imperials: Byzantine and Persian. After the first generation, Moslems succeeded to expand their territory by conquering surrounding regions from the two imperials. Islamic state which firstly covered Medina and surrounding cities had successfully been spread to a large part of West Asia and North Africa. There are two dominant factors accelerating the establishment of Islamic state in Medina: the presence of Rasulullah and his teaching. Another factor supporting the sustainability and stability of Islamic state was Moslems’ strong motivation to endorse and expand the Islamic state. Their exertion was not based on material interests and benefits as claimed by some Orientalists, but rather based on religious motivations. Moslems strongly believe that the teaching of Islam required them to spread the words of Allah to people on the earth. Faith has motivated Moslems to establish Islamic state and faith has also strengthened the existence of the state for a period of time.
