Abstract
"El huerto intensivo El Japonés, ubicado en Atabey, en el municipio capitalino de Playa, es un ejemplo de integración familiar y de la progresiva incorporación y desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías. Lo dirige Olga, una madre de dos hijos, técnico medio en Química Analítica, que lleva diecisiete años en la agricultura urbana. ¿Cómo tomó la decisión de incorporarse a la agricultura? Yo soy hija de un horticultor japonés, que inició este huerto en 1985. Cinco años después mi padre falleció y seguimos su obra para salvar la tradición familiar. Hay que decir que en ese momento ya estábamos en el llamado Período Especial y la situación económica y la alimentación estaban muy duras. Entonces valoramos las alternativas que daba el Estado y ese mismo año, en 1990, nos metimos en el huerto, y desde entonces hemos tenido buenos resultados. La experiencia acumulada al lado de mi padre, participar en las Escuelas al Campo (a las que los estudiantes íbamos cada año) y haber estado becada una buena parte de mis estudios, me proporcionaron conocimientos importantes al inicio" [The Intensive Japanese garden located in Atabey in the municipality of Playa, is an example of family integration and phasing and development of new technologies.
