Abstract
Recently, the authenticity of The Jesus Messiah Sutra and The Discourse on Monotheism—two Jingjiao manuscripts which are collected by Japanese scholars Takakusu Junjirô and Tomioka Kenzô respectively, have been questioned by Lin Wushu. He proposes that they were probably fabricated by a bookseller in the early twentieth century based on an ancient text of original manuscripts. In this article, the author finds out that the so-called evidence drawn from the use of both standard and vulgar forms of Chinese characters in Lin’s discussion is not valid when comparing his examples with other reliable ancient manuscripts from Dunhuang. As a consequence we come to a completely opposite conclusion on the basis of a set of facts.
