Abstract
"Este artículo presenta un estudio de las características más salientes de las formas de relación patrón/cliente en la cuenca mediterránea del Siglo I, así como su articulación con el sistema valorativo honor/vergüenza. Aplica estos conceptos como ayudas para comprender la manera en que Santiago entiende las relaciones sociales y comunitarias, especialmente las relaciones entre ricos y pobres. La interpretación propuesta concluye que Santiago realiza una crítica a todo el sistema, por su función de encubrir y perpetuar las injusticias, y muestra su poder destructivo para la comunidad y testimonio cristiano. Se sugiere que esta crítica mantiene actualidad para nuestra propia situación en América Latina" "This article presents some of the most important features of the patron/client relationship in the First Century CE in the Mediterranean basin, as well as its connection with the honor/shame value system. These concepts are applied to perceive how James understands communal relationships, especially the relations between the rich and the poor. The proposed interpretation leads to the conclusion that James criticizes the system as a whole, because of its function concealing and perpetuating injustice, and points to its destructive power for the Christian community and witness. The suggestion is made that this critique is valid today for the Latin American situation"
