Abstract
"In April [2000], approximately fifty people from eleven countries gathered in Ottawa to tell their stories about the devastation that unregulated large-scale mining by Canadian mining interests has brought on people's lives, the lives of their communities, and the land itself. [...] The 'On the Ground Research' workshop was organised to help local leadership to respond effectively to the impacts of large scale mining on their communities. The participants came from communities affected by Canadian mining interests in Peru, Guyana, Suriname, Mexico, Colombia, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United States and Canada."
