Abstract
Classics are both the seed of one civilization and the carrier of civilized tradition. So scholarship cannot be separated from the Classics. In terms of civilized tradition, no area is more important than classical scholarship. For Chinese civilization, classical scholarship is the most important academic area. The encounter of multiple cultures in modern times provides a chance to study classical scholarship of Europe and China in comparative perspectives. The History of Western Classical Scholarship of Prof. Honey gives us an introduction to western classical scholarship in the light of Chinese classical tradition. It covers the whole history of Western classical scholarship from the beginning of the Western Classics to the modern era. However, the author devides classical scholarship into classical literature and textual studies. So there is quite a gap between the classical scholarship of this book and true classical scholarship which has profound implications.
