Abstract
"Uno de los grandes problemas de la ética fIlosófIca de todos los tiempos ha consistido sin duda en intentar inquirir por qué existe una dimensión de los seres humanos a la que cabe calificar de "moral" (1). Distintas respuestas han ido aventurándose a lo largo de la historia, pero hay uná a la que no puede renunciar hoy en día ninguna ética que pretenda respaldar racionalmente los derechos humanos: hay moral porque en el universo existe un tipo de seres que tienen un valor absóluto y por eso no deben ser tratados como instrumentos; hay moral porque todo ser racional -incluido, obviamente, el ser humano es fin en sí mismo, y no medio para otra cosa" ["One of the great problems of philosophical ethics of all Times certainly has consisted in trying to inquire why there is a dimension of human beings which could be described as "moral" (1).
