本文首先探讨了性的两种基本功能即快乐功能和繁衍功能，论证了两种基本功能 应有的合乎道德的地位；接着探讨了两种基本功能在人类历史上道德地位的变迁，论述了人类历 史上扬繁衍功能贬快乐功能之现象出现的过程、原因及其扭曲的解决形式；最后探讨了两种基本 功能在现代社会的遭遇，研究了繁衍功能在现代社会所遇到的挑战和快乐功能在现代社会所获得 的解放，以及上述遭遇对于重新审视性的快乐功能的启示。
