Abstract
This dissertation concludes that methodology of al-Qushairi’s interpretation in his interpretation book Lata’if al-Isharat is more dominated by emotional side of interpreter. This is shown by the variety of emotions displayed al-Qushairi in his interpretation book. The variety of emotions are the emotional love of worship (almahabbah al-‘ubudiyyah) and emotional love of lover (al-‘ishq al-muhibb). This dissertation shows that emotional factors contribute to the sufistic interpretation methodologies through the symbols of the language by the form of poetic language. The emotional love of worship (al-mahabbah al-‘ubudyyah) looks at al- Qushairi’s verses interpretation it have relation with four aspect: first, about Allah the Greateast, secondly about worship of man, third about h}uruf muqatta’ah fawatih al-suwar, fourth about the simbol of man’s nearby to Allah. Emotional love of lover (al-‘ishq al-muhibb) looks at al-Qushairi’s verses interpretation it have relation with Allah’s promise for worshipman. in his interpretation book Lata’if al- Isharat of al-Qushairi’s interpretation he interpreted by expression his emotion through poetic language. In his interpretation book volume I there are 305 poems, volume II there are poems, and volume III there are 152 poems. This conclusion revises the first opinion, Ignaz Goldziher, who says that the sufistic interpretation was dominated by ideological factor than other factors. The focus point of sufistic interpretation is written only to reinforce the existence of the sufistic ideology in order to be seen more well-established based on the arguments of the Koran. Secondly, Ian McConnon confirmed that teological substance of usage poetry language is often built to strengthen ideological building only. This dissertation proves that the sufistic interpretation shows the sufistic ideology (model/sect) of an interpreter, but those interpretations were reflection of interpreter’s psychological emotion, not merely seeking a justification for that sufistic ideology (model/sect). This dissertation confirms and strengthens some scholars’opinion; first, Khalid ‘Abdurrahman who said that the sufistic interpretation is an evidence of spiritual seriousness, which is based on knowledge from riyadah that produces fine spiritual emotion (dhauq). Second, Michael A. Sells concluded that the writings of ‘Abdul Karim ibn Hawazin al-Qushairi are very rich of beautiful narrative framework, the diversity of language and emotional aspects. The primary data sources used in this research are the authoritative book of sufi interpretations, al-Qushairi (d. 465 H /1072 M) entitled Lata’if al-Isharat. The method used by the researcher is the library research. The approach used in this research is a sufistic approach and literary criticism ('ilm al-balaghah). The Arabic literary criticism ('ilm al-balaghah) used to read the interpretation of al-Qushairi which shows symptoms such as emotional poems. Whereas the Sufi approach used to read the correlation of interpretation on the Koran verses by sufistic. Keywords: sufistic interpretation, methodology of interpretation, poem, emotion
