Abstract
This paper explores the relationship between Islam and tradition in the context of marriage in Bugis society in West Papua. The authority of marriage process in Bugis community is always given to the older person to direct during ritual processes. This means that the appreciation and hope to run the marriage process as well are the important things. This research concludes that two factors, Islam and tradition, do not have opposite each other in Bugis culture. Both of them can be accelerated and practiced in their everyday life.
