Abstract
"El propósito de este trabajo es hacer una revisión de actualización de la agenda de investigación de un tema que es central para la comprensión cabal de las fuerzas de cambio y continuidad en la sociedad actual, y que se engloba en los términos de estructura social, estratificación y movilidad social. Lo primero que se destaca en el trabajo es el posicionamiento de este tema en el contexto de la transformación hacia la sociedad moderna y, dentro de ésta, de su estrecha vinculación con los rasgos de la sociedad equitativa o meritocrática. Lo segundo, es subrayar la especificidad de esa transformación en Latinoamérica, aspecto que se nutre de una importante tradición en los enfoques y estudios de la estructura de clases y la estratificación social en la región. El tercer aspecto en esta revisión, es un compendio de los principales enfoques que están siendo hoy utilizados en la investigación empírica de la estratificación y la movilidad, particularmente en aquellos lugares donde hay importantes corrientes contemporáneas de investigación. Se incluyen también aquí algunas referencias a estudios comparativos actuales. Finalmente, en el trabajo se propone una agenda de temas actuales de investigación acerca de la estratificación social y la movilidad donde parece necesario abrir o reforzar el trabajo de análisis empírico en el campo de las ciencias sociales en la región".["The purpose of this paper is to review updating the research agenda of a topic that is central to the understanding of the forces of change and continuity in today's society , and which is included in the terms of social structure , stratification and social mobility. The first thing that stands out in the work is the positioning of the subject in the context of the transformation to modern society and , within this, its close links with the features of the fair or meritocratic society . The second is to emphasize the specificity of this transformation in Latin America , something that taps into an important tradition in the approaches and studies of class structure and social stratification in the region. The third aspect in this review, is a compendium of the main approaches being used today in empirical research of stratification and mobility, particularly in places where there are major contemporary research trends . Here are some references to current comparative studies are also included. Finally, in the work agenda of current research on social stratification and mobility is proposed which appear to require or reinforce the work of empirical analysis in the field of social sciences in the region".]
