Abstract
This study focuses on analyzing the shift of religious position in the principles and objectives of national education. The author maintains that in the last Law of Education, religion receives a much more important and strategic position which gave more weight as the root of education in the formulation of national education’s foundations and objectives. This shift clearly related to religious-nationalist parties in the House of Representatives as well as grass root groups that support them. It is observed, however, that the strengthening of religion position does not happen at the expense of the Pancasila and the Constitution of 1945.
