Abstract
"We remain deeply concerned that, as it presently stands, the Directive contains clauses whose wording would be unacceptable to a great many of our church members, and thus we believe to many ordinary people across Europe. We are also concerned that, despite the controversy raised over many years on the Directive, no serious steps have been taken to test out public opinion across Europe on the crucial value questions which, as many authorities have pointed out, are raised by the patenting of living organisms and biological material."
