"Desde a publicação do livro de John Pocock, The Machiavellian Moment: Florentine Political Thought and the Atlantic Republican Tradition (1975), o republicanismo inglês tem sido comumente interpretado como uma clara manifestação do republicanismo de Maquiavel. O objetivo deste artigo é problematizar esta interpretação por meio da análise dos fundamentos do republicanismo maquiaveliano e dos escritos políticos de Marchamont Nedham que contribuíram para sua divulgação na Inglaterra" ["Since the publication of the book of John Pocock, The Machiavellian Moment: Florentine Political Thought and the Atlantic Republican Tradition (1975), the English republicanism has commonly been interpreted as a clear manifestation of republicanism of Machiavelli.
