Abstract
"The evaluation of foodstuffs and animal feed is affected by divergent interests. Scandals such as the outbreak of foot and mouth disease or BSE (mad cow disease) and the new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease to which it is linked, have led to general insecurity and increased public discussion. This provides the backdrop for the political debate about genetically modified foodstuffs and animal feed." (p.3)
