Abstract
The problem of China and the West was raised by Chinese intellectuals in modern time to understand Chinese modernity. In the light of world history, it is a problem of civilization comparison which is to evaluate Chinese and Western civilization and to provide a guide for humanity’s future. Different from others who emphasize the ideas of democracy and science in modern Western civilization, Confucian scholars realize the importance of Christianity in modern Western civilization. Accordingly, they suggest to reform Confucianism to promote modern Chinese civilization.
