Abstract
"O projeto cartesiano de conhecimento apresenta-se pela metáfora da árvore, cujas raízes são a metafísica, o tronco é a física e os galhos são a medicina, a mecânica e a moral. Essa última, portanto, é o coroamento do conhecimento científico. No entanto, tal moral “científica” ou “definitiva” nunca foi escrita por Descartes. Isso não significa, por outro lado, que não haja uma moral racional no pensamento cartesiano. Em textos de vários períodos, como o Discurso do Método, a Correspondência com Elisabeth e o Tratado das Paixões da Alma, Descartes se dedica às questões morais, tendo sempre como foco principal a noção de virtude. Este trabalho visa a acompanhar, ainda que sucintamente, as várias apresentações do pensamento moral do autor" ["The Cartesian project of knowledge is presented using the metaphor of the tree: the roots are metaphysics, the trunk is physics and the twigs are medicine, mechanics and moral. This latter is therefore the crowning of scientific knowledge. However, such “scientific” or “definitive” moral was never written by Descartes. This does not mean, on the other hand, that no rational moral exists in Cartesian thought. In texts of several periods, such as Discourse on Method, Correspondence with Elisabeth and Passions of the Soul, Descartes approaches moral questions, always having as his main focus the notion of virtue.
