Abstract
The article is an attempt to search wider and deeper ways of interpreting the concept of economic man including axiological dimension. The aim of the paper is to analyze the contemporary relevance of the theoretical interpretations of the concept of homo oeconomicus and to seek for main values hidden in these interpretations. Homo oeconomicus is an interesting concept formulated within classical economics, also applied in institutional economics and other scientific disciplines. The elaboration emphasizes the beauty of this concept, resulting from the most significant values included therein, as presented in various expressions of the issue of an economic human. For the purpose of this elaboration, the term of value will be defined as: The principal category of axiology, determining all that is valuable, desirable or worth selecting, constituting the final goal of human pursuit [Jedynak 1990, 258], The object of relatively permanent desires, constituting the good in itself [Stoner, Freeman, Gilbert, Jr. 2001: 122]. The main exploratory objective of the elaboration is to seek – within the wide concept of homo oeconomicus and other models describing the behaviour of economic beings – the values, and criteria supporting the development of the resources of the organization in a special manner, more appropriate, more perfect than others. The conclusions are to constitute the method for seeking desirable values within the concepts of an economizing human actions. The lack of indication of the negative aspects of a human being functioning within an economy, and the lack of emphasizing the defects of particular concepts, are purposeful – the studies concentrated on seeking the values, which best contribute to the growth of organizational resources, in particular human resources. The research is conducted to find a special “peak values”, most perfect values, between average, less perfect or no values at all. Such approach prevents finding the presented position as complete, and requires deeper research in this scope in the future.
