Abstract
"A criopreservação de células germinativas e embriões humanos pode ser analisada de uma perspectiva estritamente técnica, ou considerando as circunstâncias legais e as implicações éticas envolvidas. No que concerne aos gâmetas masculinos, a técnica é consensual do ponto de vista ético, está regulamentada e é tecnicamente simples. Porém, tal não acontece relativamente aos gâmetas femininos, em que a congelação lenta programada antes da imersão em azoto líquido a –196°C se tem demonstrado pouco eficaz, com viabilidade reduzida dos gâmetas após descongelação. Perspectiva-se actualmente que a metodologia de vitrificação possa vir a ter uma elevada eficiência em termos de viabilidade após congelação e descongelação de ovócitos" ["Cryopreservation of germ cells and human embryos can be analyzed from a strictly technical perspective, and considering the legal circumstances and the ethical implications involved.
