Abstract
"A lo largo de la historia se ha intentado superar las limitaciones humanas mediante la técnica. La novedad del siglo XX ha sido la de pretender extirpar todas las deficiencias, el sufrimiento, la enfermedad, e incluso la muerte. Este poder ha sido atribuido sucesivamente a la máquina (el futurismo), a la información genética (el eugenismo) y a la información electrónica (el posthumanismo). En todos los casos, se ignora la distinción entre deficiencias inevitables, ontológicas —como la realidad de la muerte— y deficiencias evitables, sociológicas, como las muertes debidas a circunstancias como carencia de agua potable, de fármacos, guerras o cualquier otro tipo de violencia. El modo debido de afrontar las deficiencias humanas es tratar de erradicar las causas evitables de las mismas y de comprender al mismo tiempo el sentido de las que no pueden ser evitadas, como ocasión para la autosuperación y la apertura a la Trascendencia" ["Throughout history there have been attempts to overcome human limitations by means of technique. The novelty of the 20th century has been to try to extirpate all the faults, the suffering, the disease, and even the death. This power has been attributed successively to machines (the futurism), to the genetic information (the eugenism) and to the electronic information (the posthumanism). In all cases, it´s unknown the distinction between inevitable faults, ontological deficiencies —as the reality of death—and avoidable ones, sociological deficiencies, as the deaths due to circumstances as lack of drinkable water, of medicaments, wars or any other type of violence. The due way of confronting the human faults is to try to eradicate their avoidable causes and at the same time to understand the sense of those that cannot be avoided, as occasion of the self-overcoming and the opening to the Transcendence"]
