Abstract
"Like many other branches of modern medicine, assisted human reproduction depends on the close collaboration of scientists and healthcare professionals. While these share a common goal, they approach this goal from different directions. The primary concern of the healthcare professional must always be the well-being of the patient as a person. By contrast, scientific research is primarily concerned with gaining information and delivering results. The scientist wants to know what is possible, and how it can be achieved. What is possible may also be morally good, but not always. " (p. 3)
