Abstract
O percurso da teoria crítica de Frankfurt é apreciado a partir de suas intenções iniciais, enquanto ela ainda busca meios para realizar o esclarecimento, até as suas figuras finais, marcadas quanto ao pessimismo acerca das possibilidades de qualquer ideal emancipatório. A partir dessa transição, a teoria do discurso habermasiana é examinada como uma crítica aos pressupostos metodológicos que haviam levado ao conceito de dialética do esclarecimento ao mesmo tempo em que se propõe como compreensão alternativa da própria idéia de racionalidade. O resultado é que Habermas parece querer recuperar aquelas que eram as intuições iniciais dos frankfurtianos embora sob um novo ponto de vista. Abstract This paper attempts to follow the critical theory of Frankfurt from its initial intentions, while it believed in the liberating claims of Enlightenment, until its final figures, when it has apparently abandoned the possibilities of any emancipation through reason. From the point of view of that pessimist transition, the theory of discourse of Jürgen Habermas will so be seen as a deep critic to the methodological approach, which had led to such pessimist conclusions. On the other hand, it is claimed to represent a brand new meaning for the concept of rationality, one that tries to recover the initial suppositions of the old Frankfurt’sscholars.
