Abstract
"two major issues, entailing a number of questions, are raised in this regard that may be summed up in two interrelated queries. First, what about radical propheticity? second, which community? regarding the fist query, what impact might a community-canon approach have upon the potential for a radically prophetic function for that canon? would not the community approach leave open the considerable possibility that unpopular prophetic messages would be rejected? with this in mind, what is to be made of the apparently revolutionary and community-opposed voices that are preserved in the received, protestant canon?6 Th potential community-rejection of genuine prophetic messages itself highlights the second query: which community is authoritative to function as the arbiter regarding canonicity? what time, place, or culture constitutes the applicable community? Moreover, what constitutes a legitimate community in the fist place?"
