Abstract
This article aims to explain Nahdlatul Ulama's view on ulama. As a result, the author shows that the term Ulama or called as Kyai (Java), Buya (West Sumatera) or Ajengan (West Java) is a central figure for NU organization. Ulama have the important role as the heir of prophets, guidance and leader of his followers, also as ruler controller and as source of Islamic knowledge.
