Abstract
" Lo que quiero sostener en esta ponencia no es nuevo ni muy original, pero sí que, al menos a mi juicio, es importante tanto para la organización de la comunidad política como para el trabajo intelectual de cada uno. Quiero defender el pluralismo epistemológico, esto es, el que los problemas y las cosas tienen facetas, distintas caras, y que hay maneras diversas de pensar acerca de ellos, y quiero al mismo tiempo rechazar el escepticismo relativista y el pragmatismo vulgar con los que frecuentemente se le asocia. Pretendo persuadirles de que el rechazo del fundacionalismo cientista o del fundamentalismo ético no lleva necesariamente a un relativismo escéptico, sino que, de la mano de la mejor tradición pragmatista, es posible ensayar una vía intermedia que defiende un falibilismo sin escepticismo y un pluralismo cooperativo. Un pragmatismo pluralista sostiene —con Hilary Putnam— que no hay algo así como una versión privilegiada del hombre y del mundo que es la que la Ciencia nos ofrece, sino que las ciencias son actividades humanas cooperativas y comunicativas mediante las que los seres humanos progresamos realmente, aunque no sin titubeos ni errores, en nuestra comprensión del mundo y de nosotros mismos. Tal como veo yo las cosas, el pluralismo no relativista que defiendo no sólo es uno de los mejores resultados de la investigación científica contemporánea, sino que además es el requisito indispensable para una organización social realmente democrática" [" What I argue in this paper is neither new nor very original, but that, least in my opinion, it is important for the organization of the political community as for intellectual work of each. I intend to persuade the rejection of foundationalism scientist or ethical fundamentalism does not necessarily lead to a skeptical relativism, but, with the help of the best pragmatist tradition, it is possible try a middle way which advocates a fallibilism without skepticism and pluralism cooperative. As I see it, no pluralism Relativistic I defend is not only one of the best results of scientific research contemporary, it is also the prerequisite for a social organization truly democratic"]
